Olympic Weight Lifting Workshop
Alexander Varbanov will be conducting this workshop which will provide a specific overview of the Olympic lift, the Snatch. Who is Alexander Varbanov?
- Born in Bulgaria in 1964, elite lifter in the 75 kg. weight class
- Summer Olympics and World Championship medals: 3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
- 10 world records (2 still in the Guinness Book)
- European Champion – 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987
- World Champion – 1983, 1985, 1986
- 215.5 kg (that’s 475 pounds!) Clean & Jerk, 382.5 kg total
- Masters Degree in Sports, National Sports Academy of Bulgaria
- Honoured Master of Sports and Associate Professor at ECACEC, Chile
- 35 years of experience competing and coaching national teams in Spain, France, Germany, Bulgaria, and Chile
This workshop will take place on Saturday, November 29th, 2014 at 10:30 am here at Fortis Fitness. It will run approximately 2.5 hours. It will specifically and extensively cover the Snatch lift. A formal certificate of attendance will be provided for all those who participate. Non-members are welcome to attend!
Space is limited to 16 people. You must pre-register by paying for this workshop. The price is $65.00 + $8.45 HST ($73.45)

Sean is an NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) Certified Personal Trainer (CPT). He is also an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Sean has the unique distinction of achieving a Westside Barbell certification from elite athletic strength trainer and Westside founder, Louie Simmons.
Sean is a 3-time Ontario Provincial Boxing Championships competitor and has held over a dozen national and world raw, masters power-lifting records. Sean’s main areas of interest include advanced strength training and anthropology & diet. Specifically, his area of practical study has been successfully following an evolutionary diet in contemporary society.
